The IHPE division of Behavioral Learning Center, Inc. was created to provide parents and caregivers with an understanding of evidence based strategies to increase their learning while decreasing maladaptive behaviors for individuals with developmental disabilities. Through IHPE, parents and caregivers will be provided instruction in basic behavioral concepts and how they relate to engagement in both challenging and appropriate behavior. In addition, they will gain understanding of disability and how it impacts an individual’s ability to successfully navigate their daily life.

In home parent education will not only address challenging behavior, but will also empower parents with the knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of life for their loved one with a disability and their entire family. This intervention program is focused on teaching parents and caregivers the skills they need to create positive behavioral change while teaching functional skills to their child. The goal is to teach the parents the skills they require to manage the challenges of raising a child with behavioral excesses now and into the future.

The intervention will begin with a comprehensive assessment of skills and engagement in maladaptive behaviors and the parent’s knowledge and implementation of behavioral concepts. An individualized intervention plan will then be created to meet the unique needs of the family. In-home intervention will be provided by a behavioral consultant in the family home and community settings.
